Slumber #1, Image Comics   Writer: Tyler Burton Smith Artist: Vanessa Cardinali  Meet Stetson, she’s a dream detective and nightmare hunter. She takes on clients with bad dreams, stuff that haunts them, and she enters their dreams (in a reverse Monsters Inc. sorta way, also involving a door) and makes the bad stuff go away. From battling evil spider-turkeys, Zombie pop stars and Goblin King’s, Stetson handles it all in search of clues to find The Shadow Walker and to fulfill an as yet unexplained need within her.  A really well written first issue, the story is unique and very...

From writer Tochi Onyebuchi, and artist Setor Fiadzigbey comes Marvel Legends: Black Panther issue #1 One flip through this book was enough for me to want to give this four-issue series a try! Setor Fiadzigbey’s art is breathtaking and beautiful to behold. There’s a fluidity to it and has a life to it that's missing in a lot of modern comic art. Coupled with an immediately compelling story from Tochi Onyebuchi, and we find ourselves treated to a great comic book. This new Black Panther origin story begins 15 years after the ruler of Wakanda, T’Chaka, adopted a white child...

Chicken Devil Published by Aftershock A delightfully weird, oddball joy of a comic, Chicken Devil, from Aftershock Comics, is written by Brian Buccellato and drawn by Hayden Sherman. It feels very much in the vain of ‘90s crime/adult humor movies like Snatch, Trainspotting or Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. As the cover suggests, it’s a weird comic, but honestly endearing from the first few pages. Buccellato’s humor makes the characters immediately interesting and relatable, even in the extreme situations he puts them in. In issue 1, we meet Mitchell Moss, a down on his luck husband, parent and owner of...
