Pick this week...
Everyone’s favorite duo is back! I love Booster Gold and Blue Beetle. Anyone who read the Justice League International run by Giffen and DeMatteis will certainly understand why. They are a wonderful duo, in the classic sense, where Booster… well, he’s kind of a jerk, but man is he a lovable one. He’s cocky, arrogant and always looking for fame and notoriety. Complimenting him is Blue Beetle, the rich, incredibly smart genius who creates new tech for breakfast. Together, they reduce one another to adolescent buffoons' but always get the job done. Even if their methods are a bit unorthodox.
So, when the Justice League are captured by an advanced alien vessel, Booster Gold springs into action to save them… and try to get famous for doing so. Live streaming the attempted rescue is his robotic pal, Skeets, recording every move Booster makes. When Booster proves to clearly be in over his head, Skeets runs off to recruit Blue Beetle to save him. For who watches out for the Justice League? Booster Gold of course! But who watches over Booster? Why, Blue Beetle! Naturally. Reunited, Blue and Gold are the Justice League’s (and Earth’s) only hope. Don’t worry about it; everything will turn out fine.
A book I had looked forward to with great interest the past few months, I was pleased that it was a very entertaining book, that lived up to the hype I had built up for it. Written by Dan Jurgens, friend of Mind’s Eye Comics and creator of Booster Gold himself, the book is extremely funny. On top of that, Ryan Sook’s artwork is beautiful, and the pace of the first issue was perfect. As an 8 issue limited series, Jurgens has set it up as a really fun and interesting series, with Blue and Good reunited and looking for ways to help in ways even the infallible Justice League sometimes can’t.
