Mind's Eye Comics Pick!! -- Star Wars: Hyperspace Stories #1

Star Wars: Hyperspace Stories #1, Dark Horse Comics

Written By: Amanda Deibert

Back at Dark Horse Comics, the all ages Star Wars imprint, Hyperspace Stories, is a fun and accessible jump on for new readers. Each issue will feature characters from different eras within Star Wars. This first issue is set during The Clone Wars. Padme Amidala accompanies a Wookie Senator to the Planet Skaggec on a diplomatic mission. When the Separatists suddenly strike, Padme realizes it is a trap and calls for the aid of the Jedi. Naturally, Obi-Wan Kenobi volunteers himself and Anakin Skywalker for the rescue mission, given their history with Padme. Before the Separatists take the diplomatic party hostage, the Wookie Senator is able to hide something important in the stuffed animal of his daughter, who he sends to hide in the forest.

A quick, easy and fun read. Writer Amanda Deibert hits the cliche marks within The Clone Wars era. Anakin is too headstrong and obsessed with finding Padme. Battle Droids get called clankers, become easily overwhelmed and say "Roger! Roger!" General Grievous makes an appearance. Anakin and Padme covertly flirt in the open. It feels a lot like watching an episode of The Clone Wars cartoon, something I mean in the best way possible. The issue is quick, but covers a lot of ground. If this is an indication of what we can expect from this new all ages Hyperspace Stories comic, then I am excited to see where the series goes. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this to anyone, including younger children and any Star Wars fan.
