Mind's Eye Comics Pick! -- Captain America #0

Captain America #0, Marvel Comics

Writers: Tochi Onyebuchi, Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly.

Artist: Mattia De Iulis

Just another day for Captain America. When classic Cap villain, Arnim Zola attacks New York and launches a rocket that threatens to turn humanity into dinosaurs, Steve Rogers and Sam Wilson spring into action to stop him. During the battle, Zola questions the loyalty of both Captain America’s to a country that he believes is rotting from the inside, calling their patriotism outdated and naive. Ignoring Zola, and saving the day, Steve and Sam discuss sharing the title of Captain America moving forward.

Setting up both upcoming Captain America titles; Symbol of Truth starring Sam, and Sentinel of Liberty starring Steve; Captain America #0 reinforces the pure goodness of both shield holders. That pure spirit will no doubt be tested moving forward, as Zola is defeated, but reveals potential weaknesses in both heroes. I particularly look forward to the conflict between Steve’s beliefs in American goodness, and the realities of the modern world. After all, as I said, bringing down rockets and defeating the bad guy is just another day for Captain America…or Captain America’s.
